Amber Barrett and a great new challenge feature on this week’s Late Late Show

Patrick McCarry

An interesting mix on the RTÉ flagship show, this Friday.

This week’s Late Late Show will feature Ireland’s World Cup playoff hero, Amber Barrett, two musical acts and a great new challenge to salvage old and treasured items.

RTÉ has an eclectic mix on the talk show, with Ireland striker Barrett the guest of honour. The Donegal native won the hearts of the entire country when her goal saw Vera Pauw’s Ireland qualify for their first ever World Cup, only to then deliver a stirring post-match interview that touched on the Cresslough tragedy. The show blurb states:

‘Amber will explain why that goal and her community in Donegal will be forever intertwined and how she feels ahead of the national team’s historic debut at the World Cup this summer.’

The show will feature Great British Bake-Off judge Prue Leith, who ‘will talk about her incredibly successful career as a restaurateur, novelist, businesswoman and TV star’, and Trisha Lewis [aka Trisha’s Transformation].

Late Late Show

Photography, comedy, music and a ‘repair challenge’

There will be some light shone upon the excellent photographers in this country as Press Photographers Association of Ireland president David Branigan will present some of the award-winning press photos of 2022.  Comedian Emma Doran makes her debut on the show and the musical acts are:

  • Pillow Queens (performing Hearts and Minds)
  • Nathan Carter (The Morning After)

The night will also see the launch of The Late Late Show Big Repair Challenge. The RTÉ release tells us:

‘Whether, you have something of sentimental value that is falling apart but you just can’t throw in the skip? Whether it’s your tattered mother’s wedding dress, your first teddy bear that you want to pass on to your own children or the banjaxed transistor radio in the shed, everything is welcome in our repair shop. If you have a passion project and think you can turn your junk into treasure, we want to hear from you.

‘We will have experts on hand to give you a few pointers so all you need is an object that is in dire need of repair and a bit of elbow grease! Selected passion projects for The Late Late Show Big Repair Challenge special will be showcased in all their glory before the end of the season. Applicants are asked to get in touch via email [email protected]
