Piers Morgan. What could possibly go wrong?

Irish institution The Late Late Show returns for a 57th series tonight – Friday 7 September – on RTÉ One, with a potentially explosive showdown leading the way.

Disgraced tabloid newspaper editor, controversial TV personality and Donald Trump enthusiast Piers Morgan will face off against Ryan Tubridy and make his case for the American president’s upcoming Irish visit.

Morgan will also reiterate his push for Brexit and why Ireland and the European Union need to accept Britain’s decision to leave, so it should be a quiet enough chat, then.

Elsewhere on the Late Late couch, the Irish senior women’s hockey team will be talking about their stunning summer success in which they became the first Irish team to reach a World Cup final and what comes next.

Limerick boss John Kiely, captain Declan Hannon and strength and conditioning coach Joe O’Connor will discuss finally lifting the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

Gymnast Rhys McClenaghan, hurdler Thomas Barr and swimmer Ellen Keane will all be on hand to give insights into their European Championships success.

Clare-based cave diver Jim Warnywho heroically risked his life during the Thailand cave rescue – will explain just how dangerous that mission was.

One of the stars of this year’s Rose of Tralee festival; Carlow Rose Shauna Ray Lacey won a lot of fans when discussing heroin addiction in her family. Lacey will sit down alongside her mother Angela Ray to tell their inspiring story.

All that and music from James Vincent McMorrow and Beverley Craven, who will sing 90s classic ‘Promise Me’.

The Late Late Show is on RTÉ One tonight – Friday 7 September – at 9.35pm.
