“Petition to get Sheamie a regular rural affairs slot on Radio 1.”
It’s safe to say that Patrick Kielty’s inaugural Toy Show was a success, receiving a great response from viewers and raising over €3 million for charity.
Yet, one person who may have stolen the spotlight from Kielty on the Elf-themed edition of the annual TV event was Sheamie Garrihy, a seven-year-old boy from Kilfenora in Co Clare who was on the show to showcase his family’s lego collection.
And from the moment he first appeared on screen, he had the audience in stitches – immediately telling the host:
“Before we start chatting now Patrick, do you mind if I say something quick to you.
“I was thinking to myself, I bet you didn’t know you had something in common with an oul seven-year-old from the country in Clare.”
Kielty responded: “And what do we have in common?” before Sheamie replied: “That it’s both our first toy Show, Patrick,” sending the host into laughter.
Toy Show viewers can’t get enough of Sheamie from last night
And the boy was full of funny quips throughout his segment, revealing some of his family’s secrets.
Speaking about one of his grandmother’s Lego displays that he brought to the Toy Show, Sheamie said:
“Sure, my Granny barely even let me bring that one up… She won’t let me bring it up to my own house but she’ll let me bring it up to the big smokes.”
He also said of his uncle who helped assemble the Lego displays with him: “My uncle Aidan, he had to take a Lego day off work.”
When Kielty asked Sheamie where Aidan worked, the boy replied: “Well Patrick, I don’t want to be saying something like that now because I don’t want to be getting him in trouble.”

Another notable moment from this year’s Toy Show was when Cork girl Sophia aka Miss Sombrero performed a special rap for the programme.
And though she struggled to remember all the words for the live broadcast, she received a rapturous response from the audience and from Kielty – with the host calling her “amazing”.
The Late Late Show, meanwhile, posted a clip on its Twitter account of Sophia performing the rap backstage flawlessly.
