15th Jan 2025

One of the best sports drama movies of recent years is on TV this evening

Stephen Porzio

It comes from the director of A Complete Unknown and Walk the Line.

Our TV movie pick for this evening (Wednesday, 15 January) is Le Mans ’66, the brilliant Oscar-winning 2019 sports drama.

The film tells the story of two racing experts (Christian Bale and Matt Damon), who aim to build a revolutionary car for Ford to defeat Ferrari with at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

Directed by James Mangold (Logan, The Wolverine), Le Mans ’66’s cast also includes Irish actress Caitríona Balfe, alongside Jon Bernthal, Josh Lucas and Tracy Letts.

And the movie’s exciting racing sequences, terrific performances and rousing underdog story make it no surprise that the movie was an Oscar Best Picture nominee following its release.

It also won two Academy Awards in the Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing categories.

Also known as Ford v Ferrari, Le Mans ’66 is airing on TV this evening on Film4 at 5.50pm.
