Love Island is officially back for its tenth season this summer and it looks like there’s going to be an interesting addition to the series soon.

According to the Irish Independent, a League of Ireland footballer is set to enter the villa this week. The unnamed player is understood to be in his early 20’s and a fringe player at his club. He is also not from Ireland. However, his full identity will be kept under wraps until the last minute due to legal reasons.

The player will reportedly enter the villa within the next week and has apparently stepped away from his club already, his teammates have been informed.

It’s not the first time Love Island has had a League of Ireland player in the villa. In 2021, ex-Waterford player Aaron Simpson also appeared on the show, lasting ten days inside the villa before getting dumped.

The 26-year-old now plays for National League South side Chippenham Town, but had a brief stint at the RSC during the 2019 season.

Creative Director of the reality show, Mike Spencer told fans to expect the unexpected for this season.

“Things won’t be where you originally think they’ll be and there will be new twists and turns along the way,” he said. “I think we’re really trying to keep it fresh and exciting so people don’t know. Especially for the islanders, if you’ve watched the show, historically, you kind of know where things are placed so we want to change it all up.”

Out of the current 10 singletons on the show, there is one Dubliner, Catherine Agbaje. The 22-year-old real estate agent is the only Irish contestant on the show so far.

Love Island airs on Virgin Media Two at 9pm.
