After 20 long years, we might actually be getting a Lethal Weapon 5

But will it be as good as the unsolicited Always Sunny sequel?

We can think of a few people that will be very happy with this news.

Despite the 4th one being a big pile of excrement, the Lethal Weapon series still has a lot of love behind it, with no group of people having more love for it than the cast of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Deadline reports as follows:

Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Richard Donner are all huddling on the possibility of doing another film for the the Lethal Weapon franchise. In the scenario we’ve heard Donner would direct and Channing Gibson (Lethal Weapon 4) would script. There are many moving parts, but we’ve heard that all are on board and exploring another film.

Okay, so a few things here:

  • Director Richard Donner directed all four of the Lethal Weapon movies to date, and was also responsible for great movies like The Goonies, Superman, The Omen and Scrooged, but he hasn’t directed anything since the very meh Bruce Willis action flick 16 Blocks back in 2006.
  • As far as we can tell, screenwriter Channing Gibson isn’t related to Mel, but he too has been out of practise, having not written anything since The Rock’s 2004 revenge flick Walking Tall.
  • Channing did write Lethal Weapon 4 back in 1998, which was just a terrible, terrible movie. Remember this bit which put Riggs and Murtagh against a crappy Iron Man villain?

  • Right now, Mel Gibson is 61.
  • Danny Glover is 71
  • They are quite literally too old for this shit.

Still though, we would absolutely watch a fifth one. And if they don’t give the Always Sunny gang some kind of cameo, there is no justice in this world.
