If you loved Sicario, then this is unmissable.
Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of Special Ops: Lioness, because we are here to open your eyes to its greatness. Before we get into what its about, check out who is involved.
Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman. Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman. Star of four of the six biggest box office hits of all time, Zoe Saldana. Academy Award nominated screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (Hell Or High Water, Yellowstone). Highly praised director John Hillcoat (The Road, Lawless).
So, yeah, a very impressive set of names on the opening and closing credits there. And the new international spy series they’re all a part of is a must-watch if you happen to be a fan of Sicario and its underrated sequel, which Sheridan also wrote.
It focuses primarily on two women. Cruz (Laysla De Oliveira) rapidly rises up the ranks of the Army thanks to her exceptional physical and mental skills, which catches the attention of the Lioness program, headed up Joe (Zoe Saldana).
What the Lioness program consists of is training female agents to get close to the wives, girlfriends or daughters of dangerous men, and using that relationship to potentially take those dangerous men out. However, the agents are also trapped behind enemy lines without any assistance, so if they get caught, they’re on their own.
While it is still unclear if Lioness can maintain this unbearable tension across the eight episodes of its first season, it is fair to say we’ll be staying tuned in each and every week to find out!
The first two episodes of Special Ops: Lioness are available to watch right now, with new episodes being added every Sunday.
