Taken Down

Love/Hate fans will be watching this.

Despite the fact that Love/Hate is no more, fans of the show can take some comfort in knowing that the beloved drama was instrumental in kick-starting the careers of their talented cast.

Since those fatal bullets were fired on the side of the road, the likes of Ruth Negga, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Barry Keoghan, Killian Scott, and Charlie Murphy have continued to impress in a variety of different roles.

These impressive feats aren’t just confined to the talent that’s on the screen though because Love/Hate has also been an incredibly fertile ground for its producers and directors.

For example, David Caffrey and Anthony Byrne both directed episodes of the crime drama and they have since been hired to direct Seasons 4 and 5 of Peaky Blinders respectively. Impressive stuff.

This being said, Irish fans have been eagerly anticipating the next show from Stuart Carolan – creator of Love/Hate – and as reported previously, he’s back with a new crime drama called Taken Down.

The show revolves around Detective Jen Rooney (Lynn Rafferty) as she investigates the violent death of a young Nigerian migrant whose abandoned body is found close to a Direct Provision Centre.

The cast includes Aissa Maiga (Anything for Alice, Bianco e Nero), Brian Gleeson (Resistance, Phantom Thread),  Lynn Rafferty (Love/Hate), Orla Fitzgerald (The Young Offenders,) Jimmy Smallhorne (Love/Hate, Clean Break), Barry Ward (End of The F*cking World, The Fall,), Enoch Frost (Skyfall, The Desert) and Slimane Dazi (A Prophet, Rengaine).

Spiral Pictures’ Stuart Carolan (writer/executive producer), Suzanne McAuley (executive producer) and David Caffrey (director) head up the creative team on this adaptation of Jo Spain’s novel.

While no broadcast date has been announced yet, we’d expect to see it arrive closer to the end of the year.

During the launch of their new season of programming, RTÉ showed a few glimpses of what fans can expect from Taken Down (0:11)

Take a look.
