Season 5 airs on October 5th and it looks like there will be even better news for fans of the show…

Much like an inevitable Conor McGregor win, JOE is certain that the new season of Love/Hate will be an absolute smash hit with Irish audiences.

One of the show’s producers, Suzanne McAuley, was chatting with the Independent about what fans can expect for the upcoming season and the potential for a sixth series.

Consider this your SPOILER ALERT warning but we can’t wait to see what happens to Nidge following last seasons dramatic season finale.

According to McAuley the new seasons starts, “with Nidge travelling to Spain to negotiate a new drugs shipment. He is trying to build back his empire. Meanwhile, his enemies in Dublin are closing in”.

The producer also revealed that the show’s creators have acknowledged the mixed reaction to season 4 saying, “Many shows have controversial endings. Lots of people did like it, some didn’t. Sometimes an ending is not what the viewers expect, but we are happy it.”

Nidge just won’t be spending his time in Spain relaxing on the beach and wearing drinking in the bar though because he faces a new domestic threat to his re-emerging empire, provided by two new characters, “the two main ones being Terence May, a gangland boss based in Spain and his nephew, Pauley. The story is ever evolving and so naturally this involves new story strands and thus new characters.”

Speaking about the prospect of a sixth season McAuley said, “We’re in discussion and have a development agreement with RTE for a new series. We have a development agreement only for now.”

We think it’s fairly safe to say that the beloved gangland drama will be here to stay for at least another season after the next one, unless the producers throw a massive spanner in the works and decide to have Nidge, Fran, Elmo et al abducted by aliens.

If you haven’t seen it already then we suggest taking a look at the trailer for season 5. We can’t wait until this is back on our screens.
