If only this had happened back when Hamlet was on the Leaving Cert.
Ruth Negga is set to shake-up the Shakespearean world this autumn by playing Hamlet in an upcoming adaptation of the play of the same name in Dublin.
The Oscar nominated Dubliner, who first made a splash in the likes of Breakfast On Pluto and Love/Hate, before earning widespread acclaim for her role in Loving, will now be adding to her already diverse range by performing as the Prince of Denmark later this year.
Running from 21 September to 27 October in Dublin’s Gate Theatre, this brand new, modern reworking of the 17th Century revenge drama will feature as part of the 2018 Dublin Theatre Festival.
Directed by the award-winning South African playwright and director Yaël Farber, and also starring Fiona Bell (Trainspotting), Gavin Drea (What Richard Did, Valerian), Nick Dunning (The Tudors), Aoife Duffin (What Richard Did) and Mark Huberman (Band Of Brothers, Pure Mule), tickets for the show are on sale now and can be purchased here.
