Natalie Portman is chasing after her second Oscar in bonkers space drama Lucy In The Sky

Expect there to be a lot of talk about this one once it hits the big screen.

Natalie Portman is one hell of a performer.

She has, to date, won just the one Oscar, for her leading role in the 2010 dark psychological thriller Black Swan.

But realistically, she could’ve (and perhaps should’ve) won at least twice more, for her searing performance in first-lady biopic Jackie in 2011, and her supporting turn in twisted romantic drama Closer in 2005.

Hell, at a push, you could argue she deserved awards attention for one of her earliest roles, as the assistant to a hitman in Leon (aka The Professional).

But it looks like she might finally be bagging her second Oscar (or at least her fourth nomination) in the upcoming Lucy In The Sky, in which she plays an astronaut who has a transcendent experience while in space, and begins to lose teach with reality when she is forced to return to her regular day-to-day life on Earth.

The movie is directed and co-written by Noah Hawley, best known for his hit TV shows Fargo and Legion, and features an incredible supporting cast, but all eyes will be on Portman to see if she can bag her second Oscar, with her biggest competition set to be Alfre Woodard (prison drama Clemency), Anne Hathaway (law drama Dark Waters), Charlize Theron (scandal biopic Bombshell), and our own Saoirse Ronan (all-star adaptation of Little Women).

Starring: Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Zazie Beatz, Dan Stevens, Tig Notaro, Nic Offerman

Directed by: Noah Hawley

Irish release date: Friday 6 December

Enjoy!
