Luther star says that a spin-off show has already been discussed

Luther Season 5

Season 5 of Luther is coming and it might not stop there.

Over the course of four seasons, Luther fans have been introduced to a plethora of characters and it’s fair to say that you would not want to spend time with an awful lot of them.

Granted, people like DS Justin Ripley (still too raw), the uncompromising and tough as nails DSU Martin Schenk, and Michael Smiley’s beloved character Benny can all be trusted, but the majority of people that DCI John Luther meets are absolute bastards.

Serial killers, murderers, homicidal taxi drivers, blood thirsty surgeons, kidnappers. The list goes on.

This being said, ever since the very first episode, every single person has been drawn in by the odd relationship that exists between Alice Morgan and Loooofa.

As the years went by, Luther began to use Alice as a sounding board and a source of comfort as his own life spiralled out of control. Then again, it’s worth remembering that Alice is a homicidal maniac that murdered her own parents before cremating the ashes.

Well, if you want to remain spoiler free regarding the fate of Alice in the show, consider this to be your spoiler alert warning.

Luther Season 5

We all know that Alice is returning for the new season but in a recent interview, Ruth Wilson said that the character might be getting her own spin-off show.

“It’s funny. People like watching her because she comes in and out. If you watched a whole episode of her, would it be the same? I don’t know. I’m interested — if the script is right, yes. You’d have to make the show quite different in style though, and get inside her head.”

Truth be told, we’d be very intrigued to see what an Alice Morgan TV show would be like but there are far more pressing concerns. For example, what can we expect in Season 5 of Luther?

Here’s the official synopsis: “The moonless shadows of London give birth to a new nightmare. DCI John Luther must once again confront the depths of human depravity. As a series of monstrous killings becomes ever more audacious, Luther and new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday are confounded by a tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an unspeakable horror.

“But even as the case brings him closer than ever to the nature of true evil, a reluctant Luther must also face the ghosts of his own past. Striding back into the line of fire, he must choose who to protect… and who to sacrifice. Whatever his next move, it will have devastating consequences for those around him – and will change John Luther forever.”

There’s plenty of additions, both old and new, that will be joining Elba for the new episodes. Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley, and Patrick Malahide will be returning for the four-part series as DSU Martin Schenk, Benny Silver, and George Cornelius respectively. Wunmi Mosaku (Damilola, Our Loved Boy) will be new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday.

Regarding the new episodes, show creator Neil Cross said: “We missed John Luther. We missed some old friends. And we wanted to make the biggest, scariest, darkest, most thrilling series of Luther there’s ever been. So that’s what we’ve come back to do.”

Take a look at what’s in store.
