Making A Murderer: Wisconsin Governor speaks out about Steven Avery’s case on Facebook

The State have spoken.

To begin with, spoiler alert for those of you that aren’t familiar with this case. Now that that’s out of the way, I’m confident in saying that you’re probably hanging on every little detail of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey’s absorbing case.

Netflix’s wonderful documentary ‘Making A Murderer’ seems to have filled a void for people that are curious about legal cases and murder trials but this week has been a mixed one for Steven Avery’s chances of being exonerated for the ’05 murder of Teresa Halbach.

We already told you that Steven will have new legal representation but it seems that he won’t be pardoned if Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has anything to do about it.

To be clear, this case is now very much a State issue as opposed to a Federal one – The White House’s official stance regarding the issue made that clear by saying “Since Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are both state prisoners, the President cannot pardon them. A pardon in this case would need to be issued at the state level by the appropriate authorities” – therefore the power lies away from the President and with local government.

On Monday, Wisconsin Governor Scott made this statement on Avery’s case via his Facebook page. The post below links back to an August 2011 decision that was made by a three-judge panel of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals that upheld Avery’s conviction.

The main reasons why Steven Avery’s appeal was rejected was because the court found no inproper conduct regarding the curious withdrawal of a juror from the trial or the introduction of key evidence that was found in his home.

In another blow to Avery, Governor Scott has an extremely hard stance on crime. He has never issued a pardon during his five years in office.
