“I mean I’m open to the idea…”
Margot Robbie sat down with Cillian Murphy to express her love of Peaky Blinders, begging him for a follow-up movie to the much-loved series.
In Variety’s Actors on Actors series, the two stars of the biggest blockbusters of the summer sat down to discuss the success of their opposing movies and the buzz around the ‘Barbenheimer‘ phenomenon.
The movies, which released on the same day, contributed to one of the most successful weekends at the box office in cinema history, with Oppenheimer reeling in $174.2 million and Barbie grabbing $337 million globally over the opening weekend.
However, while there was plenty of Barbenheimer chat in the near hour-long interview, one topic Robbie was dead set on broaching was the future Peaky Blinders.

Margot Robbie has begged Cillian Murphy for the Peaky Blinders answer we all want
In the interview, Robbie said: “In my opinion, there are two kinds of people in this world. There are the people who are obsessed with Peaky Blinders, and then there’s the people who haven’t seen Peaky Blinders.
“I obviously sit in the first category, so can we please talk about Tommy fucking Shelby for just one minute? I mean, that was years and years of your life.”
Murphy graciously replied by saying: “Yeah, it’s like 10. That was also a 10-year adventure. We started shooting at the end of 2012.”
However, Robbie quickly moved on from the small-talk around the subject and immediately asked what everyone else was wondering: “Is there going to be a spinoff movie?”
The Peaky star gave a similar answer from when he was asked the question in the past, not completely batting the idea away, but not committing to anything: “I mean, I’m open to the idea. I’ve always thought that if there’s more story to tell…”
“Please do it. Please!” Robbie replied, before the conversation moved back to ‘Barbenheimer’. Let’s hope she had a word with him once the cameras were off.
There have been multiple instances of Murphy saying a similar line since Peaky Blinders ended as a series last year. Creator of the series Stephen Knight has also been vocal about getting a big screen project in the works.
