Marvel actor Gaspard Ulliel passes away aged 37 in ski accident

He had recently finished working on the upcoming Marvel series Moon Knight.

French actor Gaspard Ulliel has died following a skiing accident in the Alps at the age of 37.

France Bleu reports that the accident took place on Tuesday (18 January) in the Savoie region of the Alps and that an investigation into it is underway.

The actor was hospitalised after the accident but passed away on Wednesday.

Ulliel was known for starring in films such as Saint Laurent, in which he played fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, and Hannibal Rising, where he played a younger version of the famous character Hannibal Lecter.

He was also known as the male face of the Chanel men’s fragrance Bleu de Chanel and had recently finished filming on the upcoming Marvel series Moon Knight alongside Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke.

He will appear posthumously in the series as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man.

The actor also received praise in France for his performances in movies Summer Things in 2002 and Strayed in 2003, which both earned him nominations for the Most Promising Actor at the César Awards.

He later won the award for his performance in 2004’s A Very Long Engagement, which he appeared in alongside Audrey Tautou, Jodie Foster and Marion Cotillard.

For 2016 drama It’s Only the End of the World, he was also awarded the Best Actor César.

Ulliel was in a relationship with model-singer Gaëlle Piétri, with who he had one son.
