Marvel gives first major update on Captain America 4 movie

It is being compared to Rocky, which we are very much here for…

The end credits on the final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had barely stopped rolling when Disney and Marvel announced that Sam (Anthony Mackie) would be continuing the mantle of Captain America in his own movie.

That was back in April and it has been all quiet on the project since then, but to be fair, Marvel have been very busy, releasing Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternals, Loki, What If…? since then, and we’ve still got Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home to arrive before 2021 is done and dusted.

But if there is one thing that Marvel is good for, it is planning ahead, and when recently chatting to Comic Book about the MCU, Nate Moore – the Vice President of Production & Development at Marvel Studios – gave the first major update on what to expect from Captain America 4.

Moore, who has been a producer of the Marvel movies since 2014’s The Winter Soldier, say the following:

“Because to me, this new Cap is Rocky. He’s going to be the underdog in any situation. He’s not a super soldier. He’s not a hundred years old. He doesn’t have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly kind of, without the support, ‘I’m new Captain America.’ What happens next?

“I think is fascinating because he’s a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy. So, we’re going to put him through the wringer and make him earn it, and see what happens when he is outweighed, outclassed, out-everything.”

Marvel has announced its line-up through to July 2023, with no mention of a release date for the fourth Captain America on that schedule, so its unlikely we’ll be seeing this Rocky-esque adventure for Sam any time soon.

Before then, from the start of 2022, we’ve still got Doctor Strange 2, Thor 4, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Ant-Man 3 and the Fantastic Four to look forward to on the big screen.
