“Don’t go to f*cking Cork.”
While the majority of Irish people were hoping to get some early shut eye ahead of the Mayweather and McGregor fight, their plans were thwarted when they realised what was being aired on RTÉ One.
Coming on just after 9pm, the much loved Michael Collins movie was chosen as RTÉ’s Big Big Movie for Saturday and was the perfect pre-fight watch in case Irish fans weren’t psyched enough, although one person did think that it overshadowed the boxing match just a tad…
Was always likely to struggle to live up to the hype after RTE rolled out Michael Collins for the Big Big Movie last night. Tough gig.

Starring Liam Neeson as Collins and the late Alan Rickman as Éamon de Valera, the film documents the life of Michael Collins from his part in the Easter Rising to his negotiations in London right up to his untimely death at Béal na Bláth.
Released in 1996, Michael Collins became the highest-grossing film ever in Ireland upon its release and by the turn of the decade, it was second only behind Titanic.
August 22 marked the 95th anniversary of Collins’ death and the movie will be 21-years-old on August 28 and all these years later, it still tugs at the heart strings of the public.

Harry Boland: What happens next time?
Michael Collins: Next time, Harry, we won't play by their rules. We'll invent our own!— Rand Hamdallah (@HamdallahRand) July 28, 2016
'What are you going around riddling people for?' The most Irish sentence ever uttered. #MichaelCollins
