The actors have publicly defended the controversial movie.
An erotic thriller movie starring Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega and Sherlock actor Martin Freeman is finally available to stream on Prime Video.
Miller’s Girl was released in American cinemas in January 2024 and caused some controversy for its content, particular one intimate scene between Ortega, whose 21, and Freeman, 52.
The film sees Ortega play 18-year-old Cairo Sweet, who lives alone in her mansion while her wealthy parents are away on a business trip.
In her final year of high school, she forms a complex connection with her creative writing teacher Mr. Miller (Freeman).
One of the most controversial scenes from the movie sees Miller reading an erotic story of Cairo’s and imagining that he and his student are the characters in the tale.
In this racy fantasy sequence, Ortega is shown bending over a bed as Freeman runs his hand up her arm and leans against her.
Given the age gap between the actors, the scene provoked tons of discussion – so much so in fact that Freeman and Ortega had to come out and defend the movie.
In a long Vanity Fair interview published this month, the actress said of the film:
“It’s not supposed to be a comfortable movie. It’s supposed to be awful at times.
“Art isn’t always meant to be pleasant or happy, and everyone skips off into the sunset at the end. We all have fucked-up experiences at one point or another.”
Freeman, meanwhile, told The Sunday Times that the movie is “grown-up and nuanced” and that its story is “not saying: ‘isn’t this great?'”
If you want to see the controversial movie for yourself, Miller’s Girl is now streaming on Prime Video in Ireland and the UK.
