Mindhunter director tells fans to “make enough noise” to get season three made

“Audiences around the world need let to Netflix know that there is a real interest.”

One of the directors of the David Fincher-produced Netflix series Mindhunter has called on fans to “make enough noise” in order for the show to return for a third season.

The hit show, which follows two detectives in the early days of criminal profiling who are looking into the psychology of killers, gathered a devoted fanbase throughout its first two runs on the platform.

But there has been huge uncertainty over its future ever since the conclusion of its second season in 2019.

In October last year, Fincher, who executive produced the show, said it was “probably” done for good due to other commitments that he and the cast members had – and that “for the viewership it had, it was an expensive show.”

Netflix also confirmed that Mindhunter was on “indefinite hold,” to the extent that stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv were all released from their contracts.

Earlier this year though, sources at Netflix suggested that the show could still be revived and that Fincher “sounds more upbeat about the project.”

Director Asif Kapadia, who helmed two episodes in the show’s first season, has backed calls for it to return for a third outing.

Kapadia tweeted:

Rumours around the show’s return were rife last week after Netflix teased a new announcement from Fincher. However this turned out to be a new documentary series from him, called Voir.

That project is described as: “a new documentary series of visual essays celebrating cinema, from the mind of one of film’s modern masters.”
