‘Monster versus robot’ action is among the movies on TV tonight

Dave Hanratty

It’s the middle of the week.

It’s time for a movie or three. Or five. Depends how many are on, really.

Here’s how it looks on the box on Wednesday, 21 September…

The Post – Film4 – 6.45pm

Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep play crusading journalists taking on the US government in the aftermath of the Vietnam War.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – Film4 – 9pm

The third one, with bonus Sean Connery action.

Starman – Legend – 9pm

John Carpenter sci-fi romance with a young Jeff Bridges.

From Dusk Til Dawn – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino play a pair of bank-robbing brothers on the run from the law. Seeking refuge, they wind up across the Mexican border and hold up at a particularly lively bar. Big mistake.

The Krays – ITV4 – 10pm

Before Tom Hardy somehow cloned himself for Legend in order to play notorious UK gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray, the. brothers Martin and Gary Kemp gave it a go back in 1990.

Pacific Rim – Turner Classic Movies – 11.15pm

Our main choice for you this evening.

Fun, dumb live-action cartoon of a thing from the colossal imagination of Guillermo Del Toro.

Giant robots – piloted by humans – are constructed in order to take on alien invaders that come in the form of giant monsters. Pacific Rim is divisive enough but this writer really enjoyed it, anyway.

The humans include Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kukuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and Idris Elba.

12 Years a Slave – Film4 – 11.35pm

Powerful, tough, and award-winning drama focusing on slavery in 19th century America. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong’o give exceptional performances.
