The most under-appreciated comic book adaptation is among the movies on TV tonight
Your Tuesday night movie menu has arrived.
Loads to choose from tonight, so let us get right into it, shall we...?
Stardust - FilmFour - 6.30pm
An all-star cast including Charlie Cox, Henry Cavill, Claire Danes, Sienna Miller, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Strong feature in this very fun, old-school fantasy action adventure.
Pitch Perfect 3 - RTÉ2 - 9pm
The singers get caught up in a plot involving ... international terrorists? That doesn't sound right. Probably why it scored 28% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army - ITV4 - 9pm
Our main pick for the night is this comic book adaptation sequel, and one of the most beautifully made blockbusters ever made. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro (who would go on to massive Oscar success with The Shape of Water), the movie made less than $170 million at the worldwide box office, which is basically chump change in today's superhero dominated cinemascape.
The plot sees Hellboy (the perfectly cast Ron Perlman) joining up once more with the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defence to battle an ancient prince (Luke Goss) who wants to take over the world so their magical brethren can live in peace and freedom. It tackles the "Wait... is he right?" villain angle waaaay before Thanos and Killmonger did, plus it has some of the most unique action sequences, world building and creature design imaginable. Very much worth checking out, even if you haven't watched the first Hellboy movie.
Colombiana - FilmFour - 9pm
Zoe Saldana headlines this action thriller about a woman who becomes an expert assassin in order to get revenge on the people who murdered her family. Basically, that bit from Kill Bill Vol. 1, but not as good.
The Tuxedo - Comedy Central - 9pm
When a secret agent he has been chauffeuring is knocked unconscious, the driver (Jackie Chan) tries on his gadget-filled super tux in order to save the day. Not worth your time, tbh.
Kingsman: The Secret Service - FilmFour - 11.05pm
Hellboy isn't the only "This was based on a comic?" movie tonight, as this sorta-satire of the 007 series sees a teenager (Taron Egerton) drafted into a top secret agency and immediately set the mission to save the world from a tech-financed megalomaniac (Samuel L. Jackson).
Safe Haven - BBC One - 12.05am
Josh Duhamel and Julianne Gough star in this romantic drama with one of the most bonkers endings to a movie we've ever seen.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates - FilmFour - 1.50am
Not wanting to disappoint their sister at her wedding, Mike and Dave (Zac Efron and Adam DeVine) try to find some nice girls to bring as their dates, only to discover the two strangers they've invited (Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick) are more than they bargained for.
