There are also rumours an It’s Always Sunny cast member may be joining the cast.

The White Lotus is heading to Thailand for its much-anticipated third season, according to various outlets.

First reported by Variety, multiple sources close to the production told the magazine that – though production on season three has not yet commenced – The White Lotus’ creator, writer and director Mike White has been spending time in the country examining sites where he could shoot the series.

A comedy-drama anthology set at different fictional White Lotus hotels around the world, the first and second seasons of the show were made at Four Seasons resorts in Hawaii and Italy. As such, it is possible that season three will take place at one of the luxury hotel’s four Thai properties, which are based in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and the Golden Triangle.

The Thailand setting would align with White’s comments about the third season immediately after the series’ shocking second season finale. At the time, he told Deadline:

“The first season we highlighted money and then the second season is sex and I think the third season, it would be maybe a kind of satirical and funny look at death in Eastern religion and spirituality.

“It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”

Another rumour about the show’s third season is that it could star It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Danny DeVito.

This was sparked by a Reddit user recently posting photos of DeVito and White at dinner together to the r/TheWhiteLotusHBO subreddit. They wrote: “Was at dinner in West Hollywood last week and saw Mike White dining with someone big.”

The White Lotus’ network HBO declined to comment on the reports of season three’s location.
