If you’re in the mood to watch a movie tonight, then there are plenty to choose from…

Looking for a movie? Disney+ just added 12 big movies to its library, while one of the very best movies of the decade has just been added to Netflix.

But if it is movies on TV you’re looking for, here are all the ones to watch (or avoid) this evening…

Suffragette – Film4 – 6.30pm

Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter star in this period drama about the fight for a woman’s right to vote.

Alien – ITV4 – 9pm

Our main pick for the night was released in 1979 and remains the single greatest sci-fi horror movie ever made. Whether or not it is better than Aliens is still up for debate, but the sequel leans much heavier into the action side of things, so we’re going to give the horror title to the original.

Sigourney Weaver plays a crew member on board of a deep space vessel who receive a distress signal from a mysterious planet, where they discover a new species… And things only get nightmarishly worse from there.

Hitman – Film4 – 9pm

Timothy Olyphant’s attempt to bring the hit video games series to the screen wasn’t very good, but it was better than the second attempt that arrived a few years later.

From The Dark – Legend – 9pm

An Irish horror starring Niamh Algar and Stephen Cromwell as a couple lost in the dark in the countryside, being pursued by a nocturnal creature.

Hancock – Film4 – 10.50pm

Released in the same year as the first Iron Man (and it actually made more money than the first MCU entry!), this take on the superhero genre has Will Smith as a drunken mess trying to get back on track, thanks to a PR agent (Jason Bateman) and his wife (Charlize Theron).

The Purge – ITV4 – 11.25pm

Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey headline this violent thriller, the first in the franchise telling the story of what happens on the one night of the year when all crime – including murder – is legal.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension – Film4 – 12.40am

The sixth and probably worst of this found footage horror series.

National Lampoon’s European Vacation – TCM – 12.50am

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo take their family on another vacation, this time to Europe, where a new kind of chaos ensues.

The Devil’s Doorway – Film4 – 2.25am

An Irish found footage horror movie, following the investigation into an apparent demonic possession. We’ve never heard of it before, but it has 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, so do with that information as you will.
