Lily Tomlin was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in this comedy drama.

In the immortal words of Don Caballero, June is finally here.

Late nights are abound, especially with the bank holiday just around the corner.

So whether you’re heading out tonight or deciding to stay in, there’s plenty to choose from if you’re looking for a good flick to stick on the telly.

Here’s JOE’s top picks for the best movies on the small screen this Wednesday (1 June).

The Rock – Channel 5 – 10pm

Not a Dwayne Johnson biopic, but a fairly decent Sean Connery action film.

Ghost – Sky Showcase – 10pm

A huge win for pottery fans everywhere.

The Innkeepers – Horror Channel – 10.55pm

Two ghost hunters stay at a a haunted hotel. What could go wrong?

Dirty Harry – Turner Classic Movies – 11.10pm

Clint Eastwood stars as the blueprint for every maverick cop who doesn’t play by the rules.

The Guest – Great! Movies – 11.15pm

And you thought your housemates were bad.

Days of the Bagnold Summer – Film4 – 12.15am

Simon Bird’s directorial debut based on the graphic novel.

Rio Diablo – Great! Movies Classic – 1.30am

Kenny Rogers puts down his cards and picks up a gun in this western.

Grandma – Film 4 – 2am

Our top pick tonight is an excellent comedy-drama with a cast full of actors you’ve thought “Oh, I recognise them! They’re great!”

Lily Tomlin stars as a lesbian widowed grandmother who is tasked with helping her granddaughter (Julia Garner, of Inventing Anna and Ozark fame) with collecting money for an abortion.

Thus begins a great comedy-drama with some excellent performances from a wide array of characters, including a Golden Globe nominated turn from Tomlin. Worth a watch.

Zoolander 2 – Channel 4 – 2.20am

Twolander is nowhere near as good as the original, but it’s on late, so it might help you go to sleep tonight.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
