The claustrophobic chiller is considered one of the best horrors of the 21st century.
It is Wednesday.
Halfway through the weekdays, it can sometimes feel that the weekend will never come.
Why not try and make the time fly faster by relaxing with one of these flicks airing on the telly tonight.
Angel Has Fallen – Film4 – 9pm
The third in Gerard Butler’s ‘Fallen’ action franchise, after Olympus and London.
The Chronicles of Riddick – ITV 4 – 9pm
Vin Diesel returns as anti-hero Richard B. Riddick in this overstuffed sequel to sci-fi action-horror Pitch Black.
Out for Justice – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
Another action film, except this time from the ’90s and starring Steven Seagal.
Torn Curtain – True Movies – 9pm
This underrated and tense ’60s film from acclaimed filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock sees Paul Newman play an American scientist who publicly defects to East Germany.
This is as part of a secret mission to obtain valuable information before planning an escape back to the West.
Meet the Parents – Sky Showcase – 10pm
Robert De Niro shows off his comedy chops opposite Ben Stiller in this very funny comedy about the horrors of meeting your girlfriend’s parents for the first time.
Little – Comedy Central Extra – 10pm
This decent fantasy comedy centres on an overbearing boss (Regina Hall) who is transformed into the child version of herself (Marsai Martin).
30 Days of Night – Horror Channel – 10.50pm
While it’s not our pick for tonight, this is another terrific horror and centres on an Alaskan town beset by vampires as it enters into a 30-day-long polar night.
Man of the moment Josh Hartnett stars.
Mad Max – Turner Classic Movies – 10.55pm
The first entry in the now legendary apocalyptic sci-fi action franchise.
Judy – BBC One – 11.05pm
Renée Zellweger won her second Oscar for this biopic about Hollywood star Judy Garland.
The Descent – Film4 – 11.20pm
Our pick for tonight follows six women who enter a complex cave system as part of a holiday adventure and must fight to survive after they become trapped and find bloodthirsty creatures lurking in the underground passages.
Already a great premise for a horror flick, writer-director Neil Marshall adds to the terror by taking the time to make the situation and the central women’s relationships with each other feel real before we meet the “crawlers”.
This is as the movie’s claustrophobic camera work shoves viewers right in the cave’s tight confines with the characters.
Earning an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2005 film was recently ranked as the 6th best horror of the 21st century by the movie magazine Empire.
Executive Decision – ITV 4 – 11.20pm
A favourite of JOE’s, after terrorists seize control of an airliner, an intelligence analyst (Kurt Russell) accompanies a commando unit for a mid-air boarding operation.
LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
