20th May 2022

A fun ’90s action flick is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It sees Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes face off.

Congratulations, you’ve made it to the weekend.

And if you’re staying in tonight, there’s a lot of films on TV.

Here are your options this evening.

Demolition Man – ITV4 – 9pm

Our pick for tonight sees Sylvester Stallone play Sergeant John Spartan, a cop who is cryogenically frozen in the ’90s as punishment for a crime he did not commit.

However, he is later awoken in a future peaceful utopian society as he may be the only person able to stop the rampage of psychopathic criminal Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) after the latter escaped his cyro-prison.

Co-starring Sandra Bullock, Demolition Man is both a solid action film and a fun fish out of water comedy as Stallone’s Spartan struggles to adapt to the radically different world of 2032.

Passenger 57 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Another ’90s action film with Wesley Snipes.

Ghost in the Shell – E4 – 9pm

Scarlett Johansson stars in this live-action remake of the classic Japanese anime.

The Predator – Film4 – 9pm

The last released entry in the Predator franchise until the prequel film Prey comes out this summer.

Ingrid Goes West – MTV – 9pm

Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen are excellent in this black comedy-drama and social media satire.

The Bounty Hunter – Virgin Media One – 9pm

This critically panned action-comedy stars Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston.

This is 40 – Comedy Central – 9pm

Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd star in writer-director Judd Apatow’s “sort-of-sequel” to Knocked Up.

Fifty Shades Darker – RTÉ2 – 9.35pm

The second entry in the poorly reviewed trilogy of erotic films.

Terminator Salvation – W – 10pm

The one with Christian Bale.

The Wonderful Country – TG4 – 10pm

Robert Mitchum stars in this ’50s Western.

Kill Bill: Vol 2 – Turner Classic Movies – 10.50pm

The second part in Quentin Tarantino’s terrific martial arts epic.

Becky – Horror Channel – 10.50pm

In this well-reviewed thriller, a teenager’s weekend at a lake house with her father (Joel McHale) takes a turn for the worse when a group of convicts (led by an against type Kevin James) wreaks havoc on their lives.

Bad Times at the El Royale – Film4 – 11.10pm

More like a pretty good time at the El Royale if you ask me.

Fatal Attraction – RTÉ One – 11.35pm

Glenn Close and Michael Douglas star in this classic psychological thriller.

Equals – BBC One – 11.35pm

In this 2015 sci-fi drama, Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult play two people who fall in love in a utopia where emotions are outlawed.

Final Score – Sky Showcase – 12am

An ex-soldier (Dave Bautista) wages a one-man war against armed terrorists who take control of a packed football stadium in this action flick.
