“You talk the talk. Do you walk the walk?”
Monday has rolled around again.
If you’re anything like us, you’re counting down the days to next week’s bank holiday.
But alas, we can’t get a lie-in yet, but we can still chill out in the evenings with a good film.
Here’s JOE’s top picks for the movies on your television screens tonight (30 May).
Red – Film4 – 9pm
A bit like The Grand Budapest Hotel, but with more guns.
Full Metal Jacket – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
Our top pick tonight regularly tops lists as one of the greatest war films ever made.
Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of the novel of the same name is brutal, showcasing all the horrors of the Vietnam war.
Kubrick was king of the novel-to-film adaptation, and this Oscar-nominated flick is more proof of it. Well worth a watch.
Sirens – Great! Movies Classic – 9pm
One of the films that started Hugh Grant’s meteoric rise to being a ’90s heartthrob.
TimeCop – Great! Movies Action – 9pm
Time doesn’t pay. (See what I did there?)
The Truman Show – TG4 – 9.30pm
One of Jim Carrey’s greatest performances.
Behind Enemy Lines – ITV4 – 10pm
Here’s my impression of Owen Wilson in a war film; “Wow.”
Doomsday – Horror Channel – 10.50pm
Finally, a horror film based on a concept we can all truly say is terrifying – Scottish people.
Beast – Film 4 – 11.15pm
Jessie Buckley and Johnny Flynn star in this thriller about a very small town dealing with a string of brutal murders.
Kill Bill: Volume 1 – Turner Classic Movies – 11.25pm
Part one of the film series that single handedly put me off the concept of marriage.
Half Past Dead 2 – Great! Movies Action – 12.55am
I feel journalistically – nay, morally – obliged to let you know that this film title is real, and stars former WCW star Goldberg along with gangsta rap legend Kurupt. Absolute madness.
