Saturday is upon us, a day that typically offers a packed line-up of movies on TV.

Today is no exception.

Here are your options.

Jack Reacher – Sky Showcase – 9pm

Tom Cruise embodies Lee Child’s famous literary character in this supremely watchable action thriller.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout – Comedy Central – 9pm

Cruise stars again here in what this writer considers to be the best Mission: Impossible flick.

Goldeneye – ITV4 – 9pm

Pierce Brosnan’s first outing as Bond is often cited as his best.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web – Film4 – 9pm

Claire Foy steps into the role of hacker Lisbeth Salander in this so-so soft reboot of David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Zero Dark Thirty – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

This Oscar Best Picture nominee dramatises the nearly decade-long international manhunt for Osama bin Laden.

Psycho – True Movies – 9pm

Alfred Hitchcock’s seminal psychological horror thriller.

Skyscraper – Channel 4 – 9.30pm

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays a security expert who must infiltrate a burning skyscraper 225 stories above ground when his family is trapped inside by criminals.

The Age of Innocence – TG4 – 9.30pm

Prior to Gangs of New York, Martin Scorsese directed Daniel Day-Lewis in this 1993 historical romantic drama.

21 Jump Street – RTÉ2 – 9.50pm

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill team up in this hilarious reboot of the TV series of the same name.

Zombieland – Syfy – 10pm

The first (and more comedic) of two zombie flicks on TV tonight, in Zombieland, a motley crew road trip through a post-apocalyptic United States.

Universal Soldier – Horror Channel – 10.35pm

Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren face-off in this ’90s sci-fi action flick which launched a franchise.

Das Boot – Turner Classic Movies – 11pm

This German WWII drama set on a submarine is widely considered as being one of the best war films of all time.

World War Z – Film4 – 11.15pm

Our pick for tonight, Brad Pitt stars in this big-budget adaptation of Max Brooks’ hit novel playing a former UN field agent called back to duty to investigate a zombie pandemic.

Probably the biggest entry ever in the horror sub-genre, World War Z benefits from a charismatic lead turn and some pulse-pounding action set pieces.

The Maze Runner – Channel 4 – 11.30pm

The first entry in the young adult sci-fi film series.

Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool – RTÉ One – 11.50pm

In this acclaimed biographical drama, a romance sparks between a young actor (Jamie Bell) and a Hollywood leading lady (Annette Bening) in ’70s Liverpool.

I, Daniel Blake – RTÉ2 – 11.50pm

This powerful drama from filmmaker Ken Loach centres on a 59-year-old carpenter (Dave Johns) who, after surviving a heart-attack, must fight bureaucratic forces to receive Employment and Support Allowance.

Midnight Special – BBC One – 12.30am

This excellent sci-fi tells the story of a father (Michael Shannon) and son who go on the run, pursued by the government and a cult drawn to the child’s special powers.
