A powerful Oscar Best Picture winner is among the movies on TV tonight

12 Years a Slave

It won three Oscars.

Amazon Prime Video just added 10 big movies to its library, though, if none of those are for you than maybe one of these movies on TV tonight is.

The Bourne Supremacy – Sky Showcase – 9pm

Matt Damon’s excellent second outing as the amnesiac former assassin Jason Bourne.

Blades of Glory – Comedy Central – 9pm

Two rival Olympic ice skaters (Jon Heder and Will Ferrell) are forced to compete in the sport together in this decent comedy.

Prince of Darkness – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm

One of legendary horror filmmaker John Carpenter’s most underrated movies, Prince of Darkness follows a group of scientists in LA who are asked to assist a Catholic priest (Donald Pleasence) in investigating an ancient cylinder of liquid discovered in a monastery.

However, they soon come to learn that the mysterious substance is in fact the essence of Satan.

Independence Day: Resurgence – Film4 – 9pm

Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum, but not Will Smith, return for this forgettable Independence Day sequel.

War – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

An action film that should be a lot more exciting given the involvement of Jason Statham and Jet Li.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender in our pick tonight – 12 Years a Slave

Hellraiser – Horror Xtra – 10.55pm

The movie that introduced us to the most twisted horror icon.

Absolute Power – Turner Classic Movies – 11.10pm

Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this political action thriller about a master jewel thief who witnesses the killing of a woman by Secret Service agents.

12 Years a Slave – Film4 – 11.20pm

Our pick for tonight is this 2013 movie based on the true story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), an African American man in the 19th century who was kidnapped and sold into slavery.

Directed by Steve McQueen and featuring amongst its cast Benedict Cumberbatch, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael Fassbender and Sarah Paulson, 12 Years a Slave hard-hitting yet sensitive depiction of an ugly period in America’s history led it to win three Oscars, including the Best Picture prize.

Lucy – ITV4 – 11.20pm

This fun sci-fi action flick centres on a woman (Scarlett Johansson) forced to be a drug mule who gains superpowers after being exposed to a mysterious chemical.
