Movies on TV - Free Solo

It has an incredibly strong 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re looking to have a quiet night in front of the telly later, then here are the best movies on TV this evening.

Starting off with our pick of the bunch is this nail-biting Oscar-winning documentary – Free Solo.

The 2018 doc follows professional rock climber Alex Honnold as he attempts to become the first person to ever climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, without any ropes.

The kilometre high rock wall in the American National Park is one of the most famous climbing spots in the world, and before Honnold’s attempt, had never been free-soloed in the history of rock climbing.

Honnold dedicated two years of training and the white-knuckle ride of Free Solo takes us all the way with him as he begins his treacherous and very much life-threatening attempt to the summit.

Free Solo won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and it’s clear to see why as those who have seen the film can attest to its incredible cinematography and deeply personal story of human achievement and the things people sacrifice in order to be the best.

The viewers are taken on a journey of multiple delays, injuries and setbacks, all culminating in the final heart-pounding attempt. It’s a hugely thrilling film that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

You can watch Free Solo on BBC Two at 11.30pm, or catch it on Disney+.
