Movies on TV Friday 8 March

It’s the weekend.

The weather is pleasingly more March than Smarch – for now, anyway.

The JOE Friday Pub Quiz has landed.

And there’s an exclusive sex party taking place in the capital this weekend.

Yep, it’s all happening. Also happening is a bunch of movies on the box.

Here’s the bill for this Friday 8 March…

Street Fighter – SyFy – 9pm

Utterly ridiculous movie that somehow winds up being kind of… good?

Last Action Hero – TCM – 9pm

Arnie goes ironic in John McTiernan’s somewhat doomed attempt to lampoon the action movie genre while also making one at the same time.

Last Action Hero doesn’t quite work, but it’s totally insane and boasts a terrific Charles Dance performance.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) – RTÉ – 9.30pm

Michael Keaton’s neurotic actor tries to revive a sparkling career by getting involved in low tier theatre as his demons confront him at every turn.

Ed Norton and Emma Stone add support in this strange arthouse drama where the main reason for tuning in is the deft, always-moving innovative camerawork and editing.

Dirty Dancing – Virgin Media One – 10pm

Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

Diary of a Teenage Girl – Film 4 – 11.15pm

Frank and fearless comedy-drama about a teenage girl’s relationship with sex and sexuality.

Get Carter – TCM – 11.45pm

Michael Caine helps out with his brother’s funeral arrangements.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
