A high-stakes poker game takes centre stage in the movies on TV tonight

Movies on TV Monday 13 September

Game on.

Yes, it’s Monday. We’re all back to the grind.

Sweet relief is available, however, in the form of some movies on TV.

Here’s the best around on this Monday, 13 September…

X-Men: Apocalypse – Film4 – 6.15pm

The mutants face their greatest threat yet – Oscar Isaac in terrible make-up.

Molly’s Game – TG4 – 9.30pm

Our main pick this evening.

Having written some of the most successful scripts in Hollywood and TV history – A Few Good Men, The American President, The Social Network and The West Wing to name but four – Aaron Sorkin makes his directorial debut here in 2017’s Molly’s Game.

He’s also on writing duties, so you can expect lots of smart-aleck speechifying from Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba in the darkly comic true story of Molly Bloom, who ran the most exclusive high-stakes poker game in the world before the FBI came calling.

The Untouchables – ITV4 – 10.15pm

Kevin Costner, Sean Connery and Andy Garcia do battle with Robert De Niro’s villainous take on legendary gangster Al Capone.

Dirty Grandpa – Film4 – 11.20pm

He sure is.

The End of the Affair – TCM – 11.40pm

Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore struggle with a most tempestuous romance in Neil Jordan’s period drama.

Last Action Hero – Film4 – 1.25am

Arnie shines in a satirical blockbuster smash.

Half one in the morning, you may as well.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
