A wickedly dark horror-comedy is among the movies on TV tonight

Next up on your movie queue…

Hello.

It’s Monday, so you know what that means.

Complete and utter misery a list of the most interesting movie options to watch on the box, of course!

Here’s how it looks on Monday, 7 February…

The Huntsman: Winter’s War – Film4 – 6.50pm

Fantasy film that serves as both prequel and sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman.

Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt do their fairytale thing.

Swordfish – Turner Classic Movies / TCM – 9pm

Silly, obnoxious – but not without entertainment value – cyber-thriller from the turn of the century, featuring a wildly over the top performance from John Travolta.

He doesn’t do an Irish accent in this one, sadly.

You’re Next – Horror Channel – 9pm

Our chief recommendation this evening.

2011’s You’re Next is as clever and comedic as it is brutal and relentless.

When a family reunion moves from tense arguments to actual violent home invasion murder, everyone involved finds themselves as prey for a group of masked killers.

However, it just so happens that one of the party has survival skills in her locker.

Director Adam Wingard would go to make the likes of The Guest (excellent), Blair Witch (wildly disappointing), Death Note (awful) and Godzilla vs Kong (erm?) but this one still cuts like an especially sharp knife.

Fury – TG4 – 9.30pm

Brad Pitt leads a squadron of soldiers on a dangerous mission during the last days of World War II.

We’re still upset they didn’t call it TANK: THE MOVIE but it’s well worth watching, nonetheless…

Dirty Grandpa – Film4 – 11.15pm

Filthy stuff and no mistake.

How to Lose Friends and Alienate People – Film4 – 1.20am

Based on Toby Young’s book of the same name, a deeply unlikeable Simon Pegg does his best to become a successful journalist and crack America in the process.

Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst, Megan Fox and Gillian Anderson make up the numbers.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
