Movies on TV

From the director of Top Gun: Maverick, no less…

It’s Monday. It’s time to see what movies are on TV.

Here’s how it looks on Monday, 14 November…

Bridge of Spies – Film4 – 6.15pm

Classy spy thriller with Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance, the latter of whom won a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his troubles.

US Marshals – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Sort-of sequel to The Fugitive. Not very good.

Red Sonja – Legend – 9pm

Epic fantasy adventure with Brigitte Nielsen.

Resistance – Film4 – 9pm

World War II drama with Jesse Eisenberg.

Only The Brave – TG4 – 9.30pm

Our main choice for you this evening.

Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Oblivion, and a little underground project called Top Gun: Maverick) directs the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, an American fire-fighter crew who come up against a deadly blaze.

Released in 2017, Only The Brave didn’t quite catch a large audience – it made just over $26 million from a $38 million budget – which is a shame as it’s a really powerful, often incredibly shot drama.

The cast, too, is quite something – take your pick from Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Taylor Kitsch, Jeff Bridges, James Badge Dale, Jennifer Connelly and Andie MacDowell. A tough film, ultimately, but a good one.

Hellraiser – Legend – 10.45pm

One of the best horror films of all time, in this humble scribe’s opinion – other JOE writers concur, as it happens!

A mysterious puzzle box opens a door to another world – and all of the razor-sharp consequences that arrive with it.

True Grit – ITV4 – 11.10pm

The Coen Brothers take on a classic Western, with the help of Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and a young Hailee Stenfield.

Eagle Eye – Film4 – 11.25pm

Silly enough late 2000s thriller in which Shia LaBeouf is framed and must go on the run.

Pet – Legend – 12.40am

Dominic Monaghan of LOST fame kidnaps a young woman and keeps her in a cage. Only thing is, she might just be as twisted as he is.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
