Saturday, baby.
It’s that time.
Movies. On. TV.
Here’s how it looks on this not-quite-Christmas-yet Saturday 7 December…
Spider-Man 3 – SyFy – 7pm
An overstuffed, over-acted mess that is worth watching for all the wrong reasons.
Captain America: Civil War – ITV2 – 7.30pm
The third one.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – Channel 4 – 9pm
The fifth one, and the best until Fallout came along.
World War Z – E4 – 9pm
Brad Pitt battles zombies and development hell.
The Matrix – Sky One – 9pm
Holds up, 20 years on.
JFK – TG4 – 9.15pm
Oliver Stone’s controversial-at-the-time account of the assassination of US President John F Kennedy and the resulting attempts to find justice.
Kevin Costner is at a career-best level here.
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer – SyFy – 10pm
Rushed horror sequel that really speaks to the post-Scream era.
Raw – Film 4 – 11.20pm
Challenging, evocative and very bloody French horror.
Foxcatcher – RTÉ 2 – 11.50pm
Intense fact-based drama in which an eccentric millionaire recruits an Olympic champion wrestler to join his team, with tragic consequences.
Memento – BBC One – 12.10am
Christopher Nolan introduces himself properly as Guy Pearce – as perhaps the ultimate unreliable narrator – struggles to find his wife’s killer.
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three – RTÉ One – 12.30am
Terrific cops and robbers thriller not to be confused with the John Travolta-led remake of the same name, which isn’t very good at all.
Short Term 12 – BBC Two – 1.30am
Brie Larson shines in her first leading performance, paving the way for the likes of Room and Captain Marvel as she holds this sensitive indie drama aloft.
LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
