Need something to watch this weekend? Well, you’ve come to the right place.

In the video below, JOE recommends three movies and shows people can check out this weekend.

However, if you need more options, here are the films on TV tonight.

Arrival – Film4 – 9pm

Our pick for tonight is this sci-fi drama about a linguist (Amy Adams) who is recruited to work with the United States Army in order to help the military communicate with mysterious alien lifeforms.

Co-starring Forest Whitaker and Jeremy Renner and directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Dune), Arrival features incredible performances and stunning cinematography, while infusing its exciting blockbuster spectacle with a genuinely powerful human story.

Released in 2016, the film earned eight Oscar nominations and has gone on to be considered a modern classic.

Unforgiven – RTÉ2 – 9pm

Clint Eastwood’s final proper western and one of the best ever in the genre.

Venom – Channel 4 – 9pm

Tom Hardy is a blast in this fun if very flawed superhero flick.

The Expendables 2 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a villain named Vilain in this action sequel that is actually the best of the trilogy.

The Dry – Sky Showcase – 9pm

This acclaimed Australian mystery thriller starring Eric Bana was a hit in its home country back in 2020.

Scary Movie – Comedy Central – 9pm

The first entry in the horror spoof franchise.

Wild Men – BBC Four – 9pm

Released in Ireland earlier this year, this Danish black comedy sees a man set off into the forest – armed with only a bow and animal skins – in an attempt to overcome his midlife crisis.

Jackals – Horror Xtra – 9pm

This horror thriller centres around a deprogrammer (Stephen Dorff) hired by a family to retrieve their teenage son from a murderous cult.

Life is Beautiful – TG4 – 9.30pm

This Italian World War II-set comedy-drama won three Oscars, including the Best Actor prize for its director and star Roberto Benigni.

Definitely, Maybe – MTV – 10pm

Ryan Reynolds stars in this well-reviewed 2008 rom-com.

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck – Sky Arts – 10.15pm

An acclaimed 2015 documentary about the Nirvana frontman.

Cop Out – Comedy Central – 10.45pm

Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan are the leads of this disappointing buddy cop comedy from director Kevin Smith (Clerks).

Open 24 Hours – Horror Xtra – 10.45pm

In this 2018 American horror, a woman with a dark past gets a job at an all-night gas station.

Outbreak – Turner Classic Movies – 11.10pm

Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman and Donald Sutherland are among the cast of this ’90s medical thriller about a fictional virus outbreak.

The Nice Guys – Film4 – 11.20pm

Another modern classic, this time starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, which JOE has recommended numerous times before.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid – RTÉ One – 11.50pm

Paul Newman and Robert Redford star in one of the most famous Westerns of all time.
