Movies on TV - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

It’s got a strong 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re looking for something to watch this Sunday evening then you’re in luck, as there are some excellent movies on TV.

Among the options is our top pick for the night – Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

The Cold War spy thriller is not only an incredibly tense affair, it also boasts one of the best casts in recent memory.

Based on the book of the same name by espionage author extraordinaire John Le Carré, the 2011 film stars Academy Award winner Gary Oldman as infamous MI6 agent George Smiley.

Coming out of retirement, Smiley is tasked with finding who is believed to be a soviet mole in the British intelligence.

The incredible supporting cast includes Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Ciarán Hinds, Benedict Cumberbatch and Kathy Burke.

As with nearly every film Oldman stars in, the veteran actor’s performance was a standout for critics, particularly for how he takes over the role of Smiley from Alec Guinness, who played the character in the 1979 BBC series.

Oldman received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his portrayal of the famous fictional spy.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is on BBC One at 11.40pm. If that’s too late for your Sunday evening, you can also catch the film on Netflix.
