Movies on TV Thursday 11 October

There’s a storm coming. Watch a movie.

In case you hadn’t heard, Storm Callum is en route to Ireland.

Met Éireann has issued a couple of status orange warnings, while AA Ireland has advised motorists to take extra care on the roads in the coming days.

Thursday night – 11 October – appears to be bringing the worst of it, so you’re probably better off barricading yourself indoors, putting the feet up and watching a movie on the aul television…

A View to a Kill – ITV4 – 9pm

One for the ‘Timothy Dalton was the best Bond’ cultists.

The Jackal – SyFy – 9pm

In the first of two epic struggles with accents tonight, Richard Gere absolutely butchers his attempt at sounding Irish, which is reason enough to watch the film.

That, and what happens to one of Jack Black’s more irritating characters.

The Maze Runner – Film 4 – 10.55pm

Teen sci-fi dystopia action for fans of The Hunger Games, These Mortal Instruments and the Divergent series, only nobody watched those last two.

The Devil’s Advocate – TCM – 11pm

Now we’re talking.

Shouty Al Pacino almost literally eats the scenery as ‘John Milton’, a man who is definitely not hiding a very obvious secret identity.

Keanu Reeves, god bless him, wrestles intensely with a deep south accent as a small town lawyer who finds that big city success isn’t quite what it’s cracked up to be.

Quite fittingly, The Devil’s Advocate may well be the single guiltiest pleasure in all of cinema. Look at him go!

Welcome to the Punch – Film 4 – 1.40am

James McAvoy and Mark Strong face off in a blue-tinted thriller that nobody outside of Empire magazine ever really talked about before or after its release.

Hey, we didn’t say it was a great night on the box…
