Movies on TV Thursday 15 November

Britain is on fire. Watch a movie.

That’s the Topical Brexit Reference out of the way, now, on with some cinematic home comfort business.

Yes, it’s Thursday 15 November. The week is almost over. As ever, though, there are plenty of films available to watch on your television screen tonight.

And here they are…

Warrior – Film 4 – 9pm

Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton eventually come to blows in a superb and emotionally-charged tale of two men with more in common than they might wish for.

Set against the backdrop of an MMA tournament with huge personal and financial stakes for both competitors, Warrior is more concerned with battles fought within.

Legend has it that cinemas everywhere were full of grown men weeping upon the movie’s release in 2011, and when that National song kicks in at the end you well believe it.

GoldenEye – ITV4 – 9pm

The beginning of the glory that was the Brosnan Bond era.

GoldenEye is, of course, best remembered as one of the greatest video games to ever do it, but the movie is pretty good, too.

It’s a strong debut for Brosnan, Famke Janssen steals the show in her Hollywood breakthrough and Sean Bean gives good villain.

Terminator Salvation – SyFy – 1opm

Hey, remember when Hollywood tried to make Sam Worthington happen?

Terminator Salvation isn’t a good film. It might be a terrible one.

Which is really frustrating as they got a lot right; it looks the part, the late Anton Yelchin was literally perfect casting as a young Kyle Reese and for a McG movie it’s decently directed.

The script, though. Legend has it that Christian Bale argued his way to an entire change of direction and thus his dull John Connor became the focus.

Dead Calm – TCM – 11pm

Tense and claustrophobic thriller with Sam Neill, Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane.

Inglourious Basterds – ITV 4 – 11.4opm

Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece? Well, that’s more likely Jackie Brown but IB has aged quite gracefully over the past… wait, Inglourious Basterds is nearly 10 years old?

What the hell happened? Still, an excellent film.

Man on a Ledge – Film 4 – 11.45pm

Hey, remember when Hollywood tried to make Sam Worthington happen?

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
