Movies on TV

Here’s what’s on the box.

This time next week you’ll all be getting stuck into a pile of food and sitting down to watch some excellent films on St. Stephen’s Day.

Sadly, the choice isn’t that plentiful this evening but at least Tremors is on.

Here’s the best of tonight’s picks on this Thursday 19 December…

Behind Enemy Lines – 6:55pm on Film4

A US Navy navigator is shot down over enemy territory and is ruthlessly pursued by a secret police enforcer and the opposing troops.

Meanwhile his commanding officer goes against orders in an attempt to rescue him. Directed by Louth’s John Moore. There you go.

First Blood – 9pm on ITV4

Rambo wages a one-man war in the mountains.

Far better than what came after it in the saga.

Starsky and Hutch – 9pm on Comedy Central

“Do it! Do it!”

Independence Day – 9pm on Film4

Has there ever been a cooler looking duo that saved the world than Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum? The sci-fi blockbuster still holds up.

Tremors – 11:05pm on ITV4

A cult classic that boasts more brilliant one-liners than you may remember. Aside from this, the monsters are pretty great, too.

In terms of a plot, locals in a small isolated town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.

If you’ve never seen Tremors, rectify that quickly.

Side note, for any masochists out there, Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie starts at 10:35 pm on BBC1 too.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
