An award-winning sci-fi blockbuster is among the movies on TV tonight

It also received seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Sunday is a perfect night for staying in and watching a few movies on TV. Luckily, there’s some excellent flicks amongst the choices for tonight, so you won’t be stuck.

So, without further ado, have a look below at the best options on the telly tonight and get picking!

Diamonds Are Forever – RTÉ2 – 6.15pm

Sean Connery returns as 007 in this 1971 classic where the M16 agent impersonates a diamond smuggler to infiltrate a smuggling ring. He soon uncovers a plot by his old enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld to use the diamonds to build a space-based laser weapon.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – ITV2 – 6.30pm

The second installment of the new Jurassic World series sees Owen Grady and Claire Dearing return to Isla Nublar to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from an impending volcanic eruption, only to discover a mercenary team’s ulterior motives to bring them to the US mainland.

Reign of Fire – Great! Movies – 7.05pm

Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale star in this 2002 post-apocalyptic fantasy focusing on a dragon-ravaged London in the year 2020.

The Martian – E4 – 9pm

Winner of the Best Picture Golden Globe (for the Musical or Comedy category, weirdly) and nominated for seven Academy Awards, our pick for tonight is the 2015 Ridley Scott sci-fi.

Starring Matt Damon, The Martian follows an astronaut’s lone struggle to survive on Mars after being left behind and the efforts of NASA to rescue him and bring him home to Earth. With a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that the film is regarded amongst the best sci-fi flicks over the last decade.

It also stars an excellent supporting cast of Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sean Bean, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Mackenzie Davis, Donald Glover, and Benedict Wong.

Fast & Furious 5 – ITV2 – 9pm

The gang return for the fifth film in the almighty Fast and Furious series, this time set in Rio de Janeiro. This time around, they plan a massive heist to buy their freedom while in the sights of a powerful Brazilian drug lord and a dangerous federal agent.

Disobedience – Film4 – 11.05pm

Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams star in this 2017 romantic drama which tells the story of a woman who returns to the strict Orthodox Jewish community in North London for her estranged father’s funeral after living in New York for many years.

Queen & Slim – BBC One – 11.2opm

Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya stars in this 2019 drama alongside Jodie Turner-Smith as a couple who go on the run after killing a police officer in self-defense during a traffic stop.

Cliffhanger – ITV4 – 11.50pm

Among the movies on TV tonight is this classic 80’s flick starring Sylvester Stallone -alongside John Lithgow, Michael Rooker and Janine Turner – as a rock climber who gets involved in a heist involving the US Treasury plane as it flies through the Rocky Mountains.

Atomic Blonde – Channel 4 – 12.15pm

Charlize Theron stars in this underrated 2017 action film as a spy sent on a mission to finding double agents being smuggled into the West on the even of the collapse of the Berlin Wall.

The film has been compared to the John Wick series for it’s stylish and sleek action. It also has a sequel in the works so now is a great time to give it a watch.
