Well, with Scream VI out in cinemas this week, you could catch up on the slasher franchise. You could also watch one of the 19 big movies Prime Video recently added to its library.

Or you could check out one of the following films airing on TV this evening.

Promising Young Woman – Sky Showcase – 9pm

Our pick for tonight is this 2020 thriller starring Carey Mulligan (Drive) as a woman traumatised by a tragic event in her past who seeks out revenge against those responsible.

A movie JOE once called “a scathing, scalpel-sharp comedy about sex, gender, misogyny and assault”, Promising Young Woman was released amid the Covid-19 pandemic to rave reviews, eventually going on to be nominated for five Oscars.

Its writer-director Emerald Fennell – whose interview with JOE for the film you can watch below – wound up taking home a trophy in the Best Original Screenplay category.

The Godfather Part II – Film4 – 9pm

Generally considered not only one of the best sequels of all time, but one of the best movies of all time.

Ransom – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

This extremely tense ’90s thriller sees Mel Gibson play a multi-millionaire whose son is kidnapped.

It’s Complicated – Comedy Central – 9pm

Fresh from the news writer-director Nancy Meyers is working on a new and apparently very expensive romantic comedy, why not check out this 2009 gem from her starring Meryl Streep?

The Krays – ITV4 – 9pm

This well-reviewed ’90s crime-drama sees real-life brothers and Spandau Ballet band members Gary and Martin Kemp play British gangster twins Ronald and Reginald Kray.

The Fog – Legend – 9pm

Director John Carpenter’s follow-up to Halloween remains one of the most atmospheric and spooky movies of all time.

The Beach – BBC One – 11.10pm

Trainspotting director Danny Boyle teamed up with a post-Titanic Leonardo DiCaprio for this solid adaptation of Alex Garland’s hit novel.

Unlocked – Turner Classic Movies – 11.30pm

In this 2017 action thriller, a CIA agent (Noomi Rapace, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) forced to live in London after a failed mission is unexpectedly called back into action when it’s discovered a terrorist attack is imminent.
