Prime Video has just added 30 huge movies to its library, including one of last year’s most controversial films. However, if none of these are for you, here are the flicks airing on telly this Tuesday evening (30 May).

The Favourite – Film4 – 9pm

Our pick for tonight is this black comedy set in 18th-century Britain that focuses on the rivalry between two cousins (Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz) as they compete to become the court favourite of Queen Anne (Olivia Colman in an Oscar-winning performance).

Released in 2018, The Favourite saw acclaimed filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster) apply his signature off-kilter direction – often deployed to highlight the weirder sides of human nature – to an incredibly sharp royal satire screenplay. Also benefitting from three barnstorming central performances, the end product remains one of the most ambitious and memorable movies of recent years.

You can watch the trailer for the film right here:

Looper – Sky Showcase – 9pm

Joseph Gordon Levitt plays a hitman tasked to kill an older version of himself (Bruce Willis) in this pleasingly mind-bending time-travel thriller.

Dodgeball – Comedy Central – 9pm

A modern comedy classic that we may be getting a sequel to soon.

Identity – Legend – 9pm

Ten strangers (including Amanda Peet, John Cusack and Ray Liotta) stranded at a desolate Nevada motel during a nasty rain storm come to realise that they are being killed off one by one in this atmospheric and fun thriller with a silly twist.

Hell on the Border – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

David Gyasi, Frank Grillo, Ron Perlman and Zahn McClarnon star in this 2019 Western.

Mad Max – ITV4 – 10pm

Mel Gibson’s first outing as the classic character ‘Mad’ Max Rockatansky, a police officer turned vigilante in dystopian Australia.

Kill Command – Legend – 10.50pm

Thure Lindhardt and Vanessa Kirby star in this solidly received British sci-fi action horror.

Denmark – BBC Two – 11.15pm

This comedy focuses on a down-on-his-luck Welsh man (Rafe Spall) who comes to believe that prisoners in Denmark have it made. As such, he concocts a plan to get arrested in the country.

Criminal – Turner Classic Movies – 11.20pm

Kevin Costner stars in this sci-fi action movie as a convict who is implanted with the memories of a dead CIA agent (Ryan Reynolds) in order to finish an assignment.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web – Film4 – 11.25pm

Claire Foy stars as hacker Lisbeth Salander in this so-so soft-reboot/sequel to the incredible 2011 adaptation of the hit thriller novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
