Movies on TV Wednesday 12 December

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

…the middle of the week.

That’s right, it’s Wednesday (12 December) and it can only mean one thing.

We’re back to provide you with the very best and in some cases only decent film options on the television this evening.

Find that red hot list below.

Safe – SyFy – 9pm

Jason Statham’s best film to date.

This crime thriller is excellently put together and The Stath brings his all in a tight, twisty tale.

If you’ve never heard of it, just dive on in. Trust us.

Striking Distance – TCM – 9pm

Bruce Willis tracks down a serial killer despite mostly being the kind of lawman who takes to the sea.

Vintage early 90s VHS adventure that also features Sarah Jessica Parker, Tom Sizemore and the late, great Dennis Farina.

Red 2 – Film 4 – 9pm

Bruce Willis and his veteran gang return in the sequel to Red. It’s okay.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 – E4 – 9pm

Or to give it the full title, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. And it is indeed a saga.

There’s a fun game to be played here if you’ve never dipped into the Robert Pattinson and Kristin Stewart sparkly vampire series before.

1) See if you can figure out what the hell is going on at this late stage of the game and 2) Marvel at the capital A acting, for necks aren’t the only things getting chewed on here.

On Deadly Ground – ITV4 – 10pm

Having been unceremoniously defeated by the laws of gravity in Executive Decision on ITV4 last night, Steven Seagal is back on the ground.

On DEADLY ground, that is.

Double Team – TCM – 11pm

Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dennis Rodman team up to battle Mickey Rourke. Yep.

Dracula: Untold – E4 – 11.20pm

Someone at E4 likes vampires, anyway.

Before they tried to resurrect the Dark Universe – which failed after Tom Cruise’s The Mummy tanked – they had a go at putting the pieces together with Luke Evans as the most famous bloodsucker of all.

Dracula: Untold has many issues, but it looks the part, there’s decent camp fare on display and it has Charles Dance essentially doing his Tywin Lannister thing.

The Stag – Channel 4 – 1am

Raucous Irish stag party-themed comedy with Andrew Scott of Sherlock fame in support.

The Descendants – Film 4 – 1.10am

George Clooney broods about in Alexander Payne’s sun-kissed dramedy that also boasts a rare surprisingly good serious turn from Scream and Scooby Doo man Matthew Lillard.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
