Movies & TV

22nd Jun 2022

One of the most underrated sequels of all time is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

This is one for horror fans.

We’ve reached that halfway point in the week where the weekend feels so near but yet so far.

But, to make time fly quicker, you can kick back with a movie tonight.

Here is what is on telly this evening.

Lake Placid – Comedy Central – 9pm

In this fun 1999 creature flick, three people (including Ireland’s Brendan Gleeson) attempt to stop a gigantic crocodile, who is terrorising residents in Maine.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard – Film4 – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson make this average action-comedy fairly watchable.

Man of Steel – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Henry Cavill’s first outing as Superman.

The Humanity Bureau – Horror Channel – 9pm

Nicolas Cage stars in this 2017 dystopian thriller.

The Wind and the Lion – Great! Movies Classic – 9pm

This ’70s historical epic features Sean Connery and was made by John Milius, who co-wrote Apocalypse Now.

The Silence of the Lambs – ITV4 – 10pm

Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are terrific in this ’90s adaptation of Thomas Harris’ novel of the same name from his Hannibal Lecter series.

To this day, The Silence of the Lambs is the only horror film to win the Best Picture award at the Oscars.

The Exorcist III – Horror Channel – 10.55pm

Our pick for tonight, this sequel to The Exorcist follows the policeman from that film William F. Kinderman (now played by George C. Scott) 17 years later.

This is as he investigates a series of murders in Georgetown that have the hallmarks of the deceased serial killer The Gemini (a terrifying Brad Dourif).

Written and directed by William Peter Blatty, who wrote the novel on which the original film was based, The Exorcist III completely ignores the events of the critically panned Exorcist II: The Heretic.

Instead, it functions as its own incredibly creepy supernatural murder mystery while also eventually tying into and expanding on the original’s battle of good versus evil.

Armed Reponse – Syfy – 11pm

Wesley Snipes stars in this 2017 action-horror with a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Honey Boy – Film4 – 11.20pm

Shia LaBeouf writes and acts in this drama based on his childhood.

Lethal Weapon 3 – Turner Classic Movies – 11.55pm

The third entry in the legendary action franchise.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
