Movies on TV tonight - Collateral

Look outside. It’s very wet and windy. Look inside. It’s lovely and cosy. Also, there’s tonnes of movies on TV tonight, what more could you ask for?

Stardust – FilmFour – 6.25pm

Based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name, this excellent fantasy focuses on a young man who makes a promise to his beloved that he’ll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.

Star Trek Beyond – E4 – 6.40pm

The third installment of the reboot of the legendary sci-fi franchise, starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War – ITV2 – 8pm

Why does a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman exist? We don’t know either, but it does! And it’s one of the movies on TV tonight.

Rocky III – ITV4 – 8pm

They say you’re never too far from a Rocky film being on the TV somewhere, ITV4 are the providers tonight.

Ocean’s Twelve – RTÉ Two – 8.45pm

Nowhere near as good as the first, but if it’s still worth checking out the ensemble cast’s second outing in this heist flick.

Collateral – FilmFour – 9pm

Movies on TV Tom Cruise

Our pick of the movies on TV tonight is this stylish action thriller from the master of the genre, Michael Mann. Collateral stars Tom Cruise as a hitman who takes a taxi driver (played by Jamie Foxx) hostage in order to carry out a series of assassinations.

Both Cruise and Foxx received acclaim for their performances, with the latter getting nominated as Best Supporting Actor. Thrilling, tense and violent, Collateral is endlessly entertaining  and well worth a watch on this dreary Saturday eve.

Dunkirk – RTÉ One – 9.25pm

One of the best war films of the last few decades is among the movies on TV tonight. It’s brought to you by Christopher Nolan, who’s new flick Oppenheimer is just set to release next week.

Monster’s Ball – TG4 – 9.45pm

2001 romantic drama starring Billy Bob Thorntan as a racist prison guard who falls for the African-American wife of an executed prisoner, played by Halle Berry.

Shaun of the Dead – ITV4 – 10.10pm

One of the best horror comedies of the last 20 years, Shaun of the Dead stars duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as they fight their way across an undead-infested London in order to survive.

Sully – Miracle on the Hudson – BBC One – 10.20pm

Tom Hanks stars in this Clint Eastwood- directed biographical drama about the pilot who managed to successfully land a plane in New York’s Hudson river after engine failure.

The Favourite – Channel 4 – 10.30pm

Yorgos Lanthimos’ excellent black comedy stars Olivia Coleman in her Oscar-winning role as Queen Anne as two cousins, played by Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone vie to be her court favourite.

Papi Chulo – RTÉ Two – 11pm

Helmed by Irish director John Butler, Papi Chulo tells the story of a lonely weatherman who strikes up a friendship with a migrant worker in Los Angeles.

Shanghai Noon – UTV – 11.15pm

A cross between a martial arts flick, a Western and a buddy cop adventure, this 2000 comedy starring Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan literally has it all. It’s also very funny.

Possessor – FilmFour – 11.20pm

2020 psychological horror from the mind of Brandon Cronenberg, Possessor stars Andrea Riseborough as an assassin who performs her assignments through possessing the bodies of other individuals.

99 Homes – BBC One – 11.50pm

Andrew Garfield, Laura Dern and Michael Shannon star in this 2014 drama centering on the Great Recession.

The Guard – Channel 4 – 12.50am

Brendan Gleeson stars as a grumpy garda who has to team up with an FBI agent for a multi-national drugs case in this gas comedy from John Michael McDonagh.
