Netflix has quietly added 15 big movies to its library

Stephen Porzio

Among the list is one of the best comedies of recent years.

Last week, we wrote about 20 big movies being added to Prime Video. Now we’re covering these 15 films that have landed on Netflix in Ireland.

Netflix movie additions

An acclaimed coming-of-age tale that stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, alongside a supporting cast including Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig and Ryan Reynolds.

American Gangster
Denzel Washington is a gangster and Russell Crowe is the detective on his tail in director Ridley Scott’s very watchable crime drama based loosely on true events.

Set in the far distant future, a young man (Timothée Chalamet) and his family is thrust into a war for the deadly and inhospitable desert planet Arrakis. Required (re)watching before Dune: Part Two comes to cinemas in March.

Good Grief
Schitt’s Creek’s Daniel Levy writes, directs and stars in this Netflix original comedy drama as a man mourning the loss of his husband (Luke Evans), while his two best friends (one of whom is played by Irish Oscar nominee Ruth Negga) try to help him through his grief.

In this big budget Netflix original, an international heist crew – led by Cyrus Whitaker (Kevin Hart) – races to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet.

Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke star in this very good biographical drama from Irish director Aisling Walsh (Song for a Raggy Boy) about the life of folk artist Maud Lewis.

The third film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Morbius sees Oscar-winner Jared Leto play the titular character – a brilliant doctor whose efforts to cure his rare blood disease turn him into a vampire.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino’s most recent (and maybe best?) movie.

Red Rocket
One of the best comedies of recent years, Red Rocket follows Mikey ‘Saber’ Davies (Simon Rex, the Scary Movie franchise), a porn star who returns to his Texas city hometown having burnt all his bridges in Los Angeles.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Based on the acclaimed horror book series of the same name for children, this creepy 2019 movie was a hit with both audiences and critics upon release.

Society of the Snow
Another Netflix original, this acclaimed survival thriller centres around the Uruguayan 1972 Andes flight disaster.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Idris Elba joins the cast of this video game sequel voicing the character of Knuckles the Echidna.

A comedy classic always worth revisiting just for this incredible scene.

In this 2022 horror, Sandra Oh stars as a single mother that lives with her daughter on an isolated farm who begins to be haunted by her mother’s ghost.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Tina Fey, Margot Robbie and Martin Freeman star as journalists in this biographical war comedy-drama.
