Some great (and some not so great) additions to the Netflix library this week.
A lot going on at Netflix this week, between added their own (very good) version of The West Wing, to the news that their crackdown on password sharing could be arriving sooner than anyone thought. And now we’ve got 10 more movies added to their streaming library for you to choose from. Beginning with…
THE BIG MAN
An early entry in Liam Neeson’s CV, in which he plays an unemployed Scottish miner forced into the world of bare-knuckle boxing in order to make ends meet. It apparently isn’t very good.
CHUPA
A Netflix exclusive about a young boy who encounters a baby chupacabra hiding in the shed of his Mexican grandfather’s home, so he and his cousins take it upon themselves to protect the mythical creature. Christian Slater stars in this E.T.-esque tale, with a score of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
HUNGER
The relentless tension of Whiplash, but set within the fire-and-brimstone world of a high-end cooking. It is a very good (if overlong) dramatic thriller.
I SEE YOU
It was initially added to Netflix in 2020, but was removed soon afterwards. Anyways, it is back now, and this Helen Hunt-starring psychological thriller is really, REALLY good. Highly recommended.
MARGOT AT THE WEDDING
Nicole Kidman, Jack Black and Jennifer Jason Leigh star in this uncomfortable family comedy-drama from the director of Marriage Story.
MIGHTY MORPHIN’ POWER RANGERS: ONCE & ALWAYS
The reunion of some of the original Power Rangers, at 55-minutes, it is either a perfect nostalgia hit for old-school fans, or an entry point for a younger generation completely unaware that this franchise ever existed.
MONSTER HUNTER
Milla Jovovich reunites with her Resident Evil director for another video game adaptation, this time lost in alien land, battling absolutely huge creatures. Good special effects… and that’s where our compliments begin and end.
NOBODY
One of the best action movies of the last ten years.
RUNNING WITH THE DEVIL
Nicolas Cage and Laurence Fishburne star in this crime thriller about two executives sent to investigate a problem with a cocaine supply line. We’ve literally never heard of it, and it came out in 2019.
YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN
Adam Sandler stars as (checks notes) an Israeli special forces agent who fakes his death so he can (doubles checks notes) become the best hairdresser in Manhattan.
