The first series divided opinion…

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming second season of 13 Reasons Why, executive produced by Selena Gomez and created by Brian Yorkey.

The streaming service also announced that the new series will premiere on Friday May 18.

The controversial series dealt with a number of issues affecting young people today such as suicide, sexual assault and drug abuse, and divided opinion among people with their approach to such topics.

According to Netflix:

Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of Hannah’s death and the start of our characters’ complicated journeys toward healing and recovery. Liberty High prepares to go on trial, but someone will stop at nothing to keep the truth surrounding Hannah’s death concealed. A series of ominous polaroids lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret and a conspiracy to cover it up.

As you can see in the trailer above, each character is shown in a frozen pose surrounded by polaroid photos. These suggest how they are really feeling despite their outward behaviour suggesting everything is fine.

The new season is coming May 18.
