Netflix adds Lone Suvivor

It’s based on true events.

Netflix is doing a great job with its additions this June and it has just gone one further with its newest inclusion.

The streamer has now added a relentlessly action-packed war film from 2013 – Lone Survivor.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Lone Survivor is a biographical war film set during the war in Afghanistan and centres on the unsuccessful US Navy SEALs counter-insurgent mission Operation Red Wings.

The mission involved a four-man SEAL reconnaissance and surveillance team that was given the task of tracking down the Taliban leader Ahmad Shah.

The film was praised for its direction by Peter Berg (Patriots Day), massive action sequences and lead performance from Wahlberg, alongside an excellent supporting cast including Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana.

With a strong 75% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, Lone Survivor is a solid modern-day war movie packed with action but also serves up moral questions in equal measure, adding to its appeal.

Check out some of the positive reviews of Lone Survivor below.

The Irish Times – “Lone Survivor does a magnificent job of making disorder intelligible. It’s not a very nice film. But it is a splendidly effective one.”

Time Out – “Lone Survivor isn’t always sophisticated … But there’s moral complexity and a climax in an Afghan village which is tense and surprisingly moving.”

Rolling Stone – “Like the best war movies, Lone Survivor laces action with moral questions that haunt and provoke.”

Chicago Tribune – “Wahlberg remains one of our most reliable and least actorly of movie stars, innately macho but vulnerable enough to seem like a human being caught in an inhuman situation.”

Slate – “Lone Survivor’s lack of suspense never works against it. If anything, the fact that the outcome is, at least roughly, known in advance only adds to the film’s sickening tension…”

Lone Survivor is now available to stream on Netflix.
